The Breitner Academy is located in a prominent place on the IJ-riverside, near filmuseum EYE, the A'DAM Tower, Tolhuistuin and many other cultural organizations. Amsterdam-North is developing rapidly and offers a lively mix of metropolitan and village character, of old working-class neighbourhoods, historic industrial heritage and hip architecture. The multicultural city is still palpable. By ferry (Buiksloterveer) the heart of Amsterdam, with all the cultural amenities is within reach in less than five minutes.
The academy has moved into this location, the former Shell laboratory Grootlab, in 2016. The academy building workshops include 2D (drawing, painting), ceramics, wood, design, photography, plastic and computer. The academy has its own library and a central atrium where students, teachers and other staff can meet. The building houses also the Arts Education research group and the Master of the Academy for Theatre and Dance, as well as a café and a creative and technological incubator (A LAB). A perfect place for creativity, engagement, reflection and introspection.
